The 5 Secrets to Resume Healthy Living After Festivities

Hands up if you ate more chocolate than normal that Christmas, more candy than usual or just more food? I forgot all about healthy living. I know I’m not alone and there is someone out there who is in the same situation or even worse. Things were bad that it was possible to add 2kg in a week. That is just annoying. You ask why I’m still talking about festivities? Because January is when we pay for all of December’s mistakes. In this post, I will expound on ways to help you resume healthy living after festivities. This is based on what I have done and what I have seen others doing.

In my last post, I mentioned that there is no need to regret anything that you did in December because it is the past. The only way to get over Christmas depression is to move on. But we know moving on can be hard and we need to take courage and strength. Now, let’s tackle the weight we gained.

The Mistakes . . .

Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them.

December sort of ruined all the weight we cut since the beginning of the year. It’s very easy after backsliding to just continue with that habit and make the situation worse. I want to encourage you to take the necessary steps and do what you need to do to get back to where you were. I will give some secrets to resuming and maintaining healthy living but you know what works best for you and I challenge you to take it up.

As I was doing research on what to include in this post, I came across disturbing statistics. A huge number of people are looking for ways to lose weight fast. If that is what you are looking for, I am sorry to disappoint you because what I have for you will take time.

Furthermore, when did anything come fast? If you are a quick fix person, Instant Gratification is Slowing Your Success.

Healthy living after festivities. . .

On an honest note, I doubt if it is naturally just possible to lose weight as fast as in one week. Is that even healthy? I tend to believe more in healthy living and adopting a healthy lifestyle rather than just losing weight. There is more than just weight loss! Healthy living is more sustainable despite the fact that you might lose weight slower.

Healthy living is not as expensive as you may think it is. It can be as simple as you want it. All the same, it is in your power to ensure healthy living works out for you.

We all have to learn how to re-engineer healthy living back into our lives.

It gets harder after festivities.

The Secrets . . .

I have found 5 secrets that always work.

1. Meal Plan

I cannot emphasize more on this point. That is why it is number one. If you want to make resuming healthy living after festivities easier for you, it is necessary that you make a meal plan.

More often than not, we complain that we do not have time. What you need to do is to take about two to three hours on the day you are free and prepare all the food for the week and keep it in fridge/freezer. I have come to like this because no matter how lazy or tired I feel during the week, I have no excuse.

What you eat contributes a lot to your weight as well as improving your health. The most incredible thing is that there are free services that can help you come up with an incredible meal plan.

Darebee offers amazing meal plans depending on what you want. My personal favorite is one and one. It is very practical and at the end of it all, you do not feel as though you are dieting. I recommend, especially if you hate dieting, that you check this one out. A small part of me tells me you will love it.

If everything about meal planning is not friendly, you cant try to eat smaller food portions, eat a balanced diet and reduce carbs and sugar intake. That can be the first step.

2. Workout Plan

I guess by now you know working out is a necessity. Here, I will tell you what you need in order to execute that work out plan.

The first thing is to start simple. Start with the basic and advance as you go. This will help you not to lose motivation. Remember as you start, it is not something you are accustomed to. Therefore, you need to be slow on yourself.

If you want to execute your workout plan well, ensure you create a routine. Insert your workout either in the morning or evening between activities that you have to do. This will encourage you to workout. If you place working out immediately after waking up, you will be tempted to sleep in instead. If that is an irresistible temptation for you, try preparing breakfast first then workout or have breakfast then work out.

Lastly, get an accountability buddy. It could be your partner or a close friend. If you can’t find one, take a photo of yourself in your work out outfit and put as a story on WhatsApp or Instagram or Facebook or all. You might motivate somebody else to emulate you at the same time be accountable to all your followers (at least those who care about you).

3. Commitment

Once you have commitment, you need the discipline and hard work to get you there.

Haile Gebrselassie

After you have a meal plan and a workout plan, you need commitment. You have to be dedicated entirely to making healthy living a priority and especially healthy living after festivities. Commitment means that when you do not feel like doing something, you strive and force yourself to do it.

4. Perseverance

Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.

Newt Gingrich

So what happens when you go and backslide at one point? Well, you dust yourself and start again. Do not give up trying! It does not matter how many times you see as if you are not getting it right, eventually you will and you will very happy about yourself.

5. Motivation

I think it all comes down to motivation. If you really want to do something, you will work hard for it.

Edmund Hillary

Healthy living is not only about weight loss; it also involves self growth. One can only grow in a positive space and that is why you need a daily dose of motivation. I have made it a point to reflect daily in the morning immediately I wake up and listen to something motivational before the day ends. I am also working to insert reading in my evening routine.

This ensures you are in a positive space always.

Resume healthy living now.

As always, I have one for those who read the post to the end. Start to visualize your healthy living – to make healthy living after festivities easier. Look for a picture of what your goals are; whether it is body goals or dieting goals. Make a collage and set it as your phone screen saver. When you switch on your phone you are reminded of what you want to become.

When you wake up in the morning to turn off the alarm you visualize your goals and that automatically gives you the motivation to work hard. Before you retire to bed, you see your goals and you gain more enthusiasm to attain them.

Remember you can achieve anything that you believe.

I am trying my best to release a new post every Tuesday and Thursday. I have interesting posts coming up but in the mean time; subscribe to the Newsletter and enjoy exclusive content especially the goal planner which I believe is necessary now as you set your new year goals.
